Don't Make Pedestrians Beg
Level of Effort: 5 minutes, at home in your PJs
Deadline: Sun 10/31
Arlington recently announced the end of one of the only good things to come out of the pandemic: the widespread implementation of automatic pedestrian phases on many of our traffic signals. In many areas, pedestrians will have to go back to pushing a button in order to trigger an opportunity to safely cross the street. This isn't about pushing a button, it's about how this decision costs pedestrians time, decreases safety, reduces accessibility for wheelchair users and those with low or no vision and is being implemented with no community input. This is a crucial time when people are re-thinking their travel choices - we should be making it easier and safer to walk, not the other way around.
