A Critical Bike Connection to Metro & the Mt Vernon Trail
Level of Effort: 10 minutes, at home, in your PJs
Deadline: Mon 11/4 11:59pm

A critical piece of the Crystal City Bike Network is improving 18th Street South between the Metro station and Crystal Drive.  This piece helps people on bikes connect to a number of important destinations including the Crystal City Metro, the Mount Vernon Trail, the National Landing Water Park, MetroWay, the Crystal City VRE Station, and more!

At long last, our first look at a real concept plan for this project has arrived.  We think it's pretty great, but could offer better protection at a lower maintenance cost with real curbs.  Additionally, we would like staff to think hard about how cyclists connect through between this facility and the soon-to-be-built trail that will extend down Bell Street to the Crystal City Metro.

Open Input Box:

Real curbs would be better protection for people biking and scooting, and would require less frequent maintenance than parking stops and flexposts.
Please consider how users of this facility should connect to the upcoming Bell Street trail.  Right now it feels like it would be a free-for-all around the existing Metro entrance.
This project seems like a good opportunity to add more bike & scooter parking to 18th Street.
