Filling a Major Gap in the Arlington Boulevard Trail
Level of Effort: 10 minutes, at home, in your PJs
Deadline: Sun 6/21 11:59pm

The potential for the Arlington Boulevard Trail is immense - the vision is for a trail connecting from DC, across the Roosevelt Bridge, stretching the full width of Arlington, and continuing through Seven Corners to Fairfax City. One of the biggest trail gaps in Arlington right now, is from Glebe Road to George Mason Drive.  This project would build an 11' wide trail along the South side of Arlington Boulevard for almost that entire section (for some reason a short stretch of 8' wide sidewalk is currently planned to be retained, and a portion will be built by the Goodwill redevelopment project), as well as providing a proper connection to the existing trail from the pedestrian bridge to Fillmore Street.

Let the County know that you'll feel safer when traveling if the project is implemented, and let the know how it would affect your mode of travel in the future.

Use the space below to share any other input you have about the preliminary concept shown above:
1) Overall I am very supportive of this plan!  The improved trail will greatly improve connectivity and safety for those walking and rolling.
2) I am concerned about the short section of 8' wide sidewalk being retained near the entrance to the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (NFATC), especially how awkward it makes the approach to the crosswalk across the westernmost NFATC entrance.
3) I strongly support the concrete barrier between the trail and fast-moving traffic on 50, and the 2' shy zone that is so critical when a walking/biking facility is immediately adjacent to a vertical barrier.
4) I am concerned about the wide curb radius being proposed at the intersection of the Arlington Blvd Service Lane and the easternmost NFATC entrance.  It allows vehicles to make that right turn into the entrance and high speeds across trail traffic.  Can this curb radius be tightened up? Or perhaps a raised crosswalk could be added for trail traffic to slow turning vehicles.
