Arlington's Transportation Future
Level of Effort: 15 minutes, at home, in your PJs
Deadline: Fri 11/15 11:59pm
Date and Time: Many options, see below!

Arlington is rewriting their entire transportation plan and opportunities like this don't come around very often!  The first round of public engagement for "Arlington's Transportation Future" is taking place RIGHT NOW.  The in-person Open Houses and Pop-up Events have passed, but you can still hit up the online survey and map!  We've got a few pieces of suggested feedback, but mostly we just need YOUR experience and values about transportation in Arlington.

Survey:

1. What three words come to mind when you think about your ideal future for transportation in Arlington?

Consider: Safe, Sustainable, Speedy, Simple, Social

8. Do you have other comments that you would like to share with us as we develop the plan’s vision and goals?

I want to get around in ways that are safe and sustainable (i.e. walking, biking and transit) and do not take a ton of time or put me in scary situations.

I want to ALWAYS be able to get around.  Even if it snowed.  Even if there's a construction project. It seems like bike lanes and sidewalks are the first things to be sacrificed to building construction and biking remains impossible for weeks after a big snow.

Housing and businesses in Arlington are required to build car parking, but not required to build bike parking, so driving is easy and biking is a pain.  This is the exact OPPOSITE of what we need to meet our climate goals & equity goals.

Map:

We suggest prioritizing dropping comments on the map of places that are difficult to get to by your preferred modes.  Places that are tough to get to by bike because there are no nearby streets with bike facilities.  Places that are hard to walk to because there aren't safe crossings of major roads.  Places that are hard to take transit to because the bus runs infrequently or stops running to early in the evening.
