Centerline Hardening is a cheap, quick intervention that brings many of the safety benefits of a raised median. By creating an area between travel lanes at the intersection that a car can't drive across, drivers are forced to use a tighter turning radius, they can no longer "cut the corner". A tighter turning radius requires slower speeds and slower speeds reduce the number of crashes and the severity of crashes.
Arlington has been piloting centerline hardening and now they want your feedback. Have you used the pilot intersections? Have you felt safer or seen drivers slowing down? Are there issues with the County's implementation that could be addressed? Weigh in with specifics, or just express your support for this cheap, fast, effective Vision Zero tool!
