A Fighting Chance to Cross Four Mile Run Drive
Level of Effort: 10 minutes, at home in your PJs
Deadline: Sun 11/12 11:59pm

Four Mile Run Drive runs along a relatively industrial area, but sees a lot of pedestrian traffic - not a great combination.  Arlington is getting ready to repave the street from Walter Reed to George Mason and is considering tactical improvements that could be made as part of repaving to improve safety for all users.  Potential improvements that can come with repaving could include: buffered or protected bike lanes, shortened crossing distances for people walking, providing better sight lines and more controlled vehicle movements through curb bump-outs & pedestrian islands, and right-sizing motor vehicle lanes. Let Arlington know what it's like to walk, bike, drive, and/or take transit along and across Four Mile Run Drive! We think pedestrian crossing improvements are critical, as well as simplifying the intersection with George Mason Drive.

Consider the following, either as a long-form response in the provided textbox at the end of the first section of the feedback form or as individual pins on the map in the following portion of the form.

  1. Crossing Four Mile Run Drive is challenging - crossing distances are far, and there are no pedestrian refuges
  2. T-intersections like at the DMV are particular tough on pedestrians as cars and pedestrians are trying to go at the same time and have conflicting paths.
  3. The intersection with George Mason Drive is very difficult for people walking & biking due to its complicated traffic patterns & would greatly benefit from simplification.
  4. Speeding is a problem.

Feel free to vote up our map pins, or add your own - we'll swing through every few days and boost other pins with good ideas!
