Support a Life-Changing Trail on George Mason Drive
Level of Effort: 10 minutes, at home, in your PJs
Deadline: Sun 6/21 11:59pm

One of the highest priorities that came out of Arlington's 2018 Bike Plan update was the need for more north-south connectivity, and George Mason Drive was identified as the best corridor for achieving that connectivity.  Out of that plan came the South George Mason Drive Multimodal Transportation Study, and out of that study came a fantastic project for building a trail along George Mason Drive from Arlington Boulevard to Columbia Pike.  This project is Phase 1 - future projects would continue the trail South along George Mason Drive to the County line!

Arlington wants your feedback on the concept plan, and there is organized opposition (because parking, of course), so it's critically important that the County hears your support!  In addition to supporting the project, we have a few substantive comments on making the trail design safer and minimizing conflicts, so check out our suggested feedback below and weigh in now!

Let the County know that you would feel safer traveling on George Mason Drive with the new design and how it might change your travel habits.

Use the space below to share any other input you have about the preliminary concept for this segment of S. George Mason Drive:

1) I am strongly supportive of this plan overall.
2) I am very concerned about the conflict being created by the bus stops that do not have dedicated space for people to stand, forcing them to stand on the trail.
3) Many driveway entrances seem unnecessarily wide, allowing cars to turn faster, and leaving trail users at risk of conflict for longer.

Vote up our comments, or add your own.  We think the biggest opportunities for improvement are to tighten up how wide some of the driveway curb cuts are, and to provide dedicated space for transit users to wait at all of the bus stops, not forcing them to wait on the trail which would create conflicts with other trail users.
