This is the grocery store we go to when the more specialty-type stores like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods do not have what we're looking for. I will start by saying that their self-checkout strategy is an abomination and makes me want to shop there less often. That aside, this Giant is fairly middle-of-the-road when it comes to accessibility for non-driving customers. It's accessible from the sidewalk in both directions, but the sidewalks along Washington Blvd are often curb-tight or have utility poles directly in the middle of them. The sidewalks along Washington Blvd coming from the Clarendon direction also have far too many curb cuts that create potential conflict points with people walking.

There is no easy way to bike there comfortably and directly without using the sidewalk (or Fairfax Drive's substandard bike lanes) at some point, which is less than ideal because there is a decent level of pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks that should be given right-of-way. When you do arrive by bike, there is a single staple rack that is both loose and mere inches from the cars driving by on Washington Blvd. The other option for locking up is a wheelbender rack positioned much too close to the building in a creepy (i.e. not many watchful eyes) corner past the entrance/exit. Metrobus 38B stops right out front fairly regularly, and there are signalized crossings near the bus stops on both sides of Washington Blvd.

Walking - 3 points (B)

Have to cross parking lot to enter, but there's a dedicated place to walk (striped walkway, etc) (1 point)
Adjacent sidewalk is even, comfortably wide, has curb ramps where necessary, and has street trees and street lights (1 point)
Not adjacent to a 4+ lane road, or if it is then there is a controlled crossing of that road on the same block (signal, stop sign or HAWK) (1 point)

Biking & Scooting - 1 points (D)
