Sustainable Mobility for Langston Boulevard
Level of Effort: 10 minutes, at home, in your PJs
Deadline: Thursday, 12/4 11:59pm

VDOT has some draft "safety, operational, transit, and bicycle/pedestrian improvements" along Langston Boulevard between Veitch Street and Key Bridge. Some of the proposed improvements are great and deserve our support and others need to go back to the drawing board. The new raised crosswalks / speed tables are much needed, and separating trail crossings from turning traffic at the Intersection of Doom is a long-overdue safety upgrade.  The improvements at Lynn and the slip lane to Eastbound I-66, however, are inscrutable and counter-productive and the intersection most in need of a raised crosswalk isn't getting one? With FIVE Vision Zero hotspots within the study area, calming traffic and reigning in motor vehicle speeds must be a priority.

Veitch St: 5

Uhle: 5

Scott St: 4
Implement a raised crosswalk for trail traffic crossing Scott St.

Quinn: 5

Oak: 2
Oak is the crossing most in need of a speed table to address the Vision Zero Hotspot; it should be added.

Lynn: 1
The improvements at the I-66 Westbound Off-Ramp are excellent and much-needed.
The improvements at the I-66 Eastbound On-Ramp, however, are completely insufficient.  The northbound Lynn St bike lane should be protected & brought up to sidewalk level before the intersection; both the sidewalk along Lynn and the northbound protected bike lane should be a speed table across the I-66 eastbound ramp. The northbound bike lane on Lynn on the bridge over I-66 needs to be protected.

Please provide any other comments you may have on the study area. (last question, after demographics)
- Provide a safe pedestrian crossing of eastbound Langston Boulevard at N Moore St to facilitate access to Gateway Park and address the Vision Zero hotspot.
- Stripe a bike lane (or if possible, a buffered or protected bike lane) on Eastbound Langston Boulevard, as called for in the Rosslyn Sector Plan.
- Travel lanes need to be narrowed and other speed-management tools brought to bear to manage excessive vehicle speeds on Langston Boulevard.
