How Would You Improve the Shirlington Bus Station?

Arlington is exploring opportunities to expand and upgrade the Shirlington Bus Center.  Additional land was acquired for the station several years ago and additional and/or large bus bays may be needed in the coming years to handle expanded transit service to Alexandria's West End. Tell Arlington about your experiences with the Shirlington Transit Center and suggest ways it could be improved.

Some possible talking points:

  1. Substandard bike lanes and poorly placed crosswalks make getting to the bus station challenging.
  2. Finding the bus station can be challenging for new users.  Parking garage wayfinding in Shirlington is dramatically better than bus station wayfinding.
  3. Locating car-free housing on top of a new bus station could provide much-needed housing and additional transit ridership.
  4. The bus station seems to be too tight on capacity resulting in conflicting bus operations.  Buses arrive to find a bus from another route still blocking their bus bay.
