Tactical Speed Humps are Great! Could they be even better?
Level of Effort: 5 minutes, at home, in your PJs
Deadline: Sat 2/8 11:59pm

Arlington's Tactical Speed Hump program is an effective, low-cost, quickly-implementable tool to reduce dangerous speeding.  It deserves our strong support.  We also want to ensure that it doesn't cause collateral damage. We've heard concerns from some parents that the speed humps are scarily jarring on small-wheeled kids bikes.  We would like the County to pilot an alternate installation arrangement that would allow space for a bike to pass through the speed hump without having to go over it, to support these younger riders.

Questions 3 & 4: Safety perception before and after:

We think the speed humps make it feel safer to travel along the corridor, regardless of mode.

5. Describe your reasons for your answers to questions 3 + 4 above:

I strongly support the tactical speed humps program.  We need more tools to address speeding and the speed humps work well, are quick to install, and low-cost.

6. Is there anything else you’d like to add about this project for staff to know?

I support exploring other speed hump layouts that would allow a bicycle to pass through the hump without going over.  The edge of the tactical humps is steeper than a traditional hump and can be scarily jarring on a small-wheeled bicycle like a kids bike.
