Something for Everyone at Wilson Blvd & N Rhodes St
Level of Effort: 5 minutes, at home in your PJs
Deadline: Sun 10/22 11:59pm

As part of Vision Zero, the intersection of Wilson Blvd & N Rhodes St has been identified as needing a bus island to address bus/bike conflict & better protect people riding.  Recognizing that there are other needs to address at this intersection, the County has upgraded the project to a full on (but small) capital project to address needs for all users at this intersection.  The county wants to know what your current experience is at the intersection -  we think it needs shorter crossing distances for pedestrians, better protection for the bike lane, the bus island to speed up transit and address bus/bike conflicts, and smaller curb radii to slow down drivers as they turn through the crosswalks & bike lane.

Here are some suggested items, you can either include them in the free-form text box at the end of the question & answer portion or drop each one as a point on the map at the end.

  • bike/bus conflict here is frequent and dangerous
  • the crossing distances all around this intersection are much longer than necessary
  • the lack of curb bump outs makes it difficult to see and be seen as a pedestrian trying to cross the street
  • the many large curb cuts for the gas station making walking here fraught.  If possible, narrow and/or reduce the number of curb cuts serving the gas station
  • this bike lane would benefit from upgraded delineators like the curb stops in use on 15th St or the modular curbs in use on Clark Street.  Protection is particularly needed at the corners as right-turning drivers often try to cut the corner too closely
  • the large curb radii encourage drivers to speed through the crosswalks and bike lane
  • please consider how this project could intersect with potential improved bike facilities on Rhodes St between Clarendon & Wilson Blvd which could potentially be delivered by the proposed Rhodeside Grill redevelopment (SPLN23-00010)
